Teaching Math with Technology
- Resource #1
- Teaching Math with Technology
- This site is fabulous! The author talks about how she uses technology in her classroom to get her students more engaged and active. One example that she talks about is using the SMART board. She has students come in and complete a 100s chart along with greater than less than problems. Her students also can participate in fun math games, this makes learning fun and enjoyable. Using the SMART board keeps students motivated about learning while being hands on.
- I would apply this to my classroom by using it as a bell ringer. At the beginning of every class I will have a math game up on the SMART board and students will be expected to go straight to the board and complete the game/problems. This will get my students engaged and stimulate their brain to prepare for that day's lesson.
2. Resource #2
- Techonology in the Classroom
- This website explains that according to the common core standards teachers need to teach with technology. Not only is it in the standards but it helps students and teachers become more efficient in learning/teaching. The article talks about freeing up one on one instruction because students can work at their own pace.
- I would use this in my classroom to help students that are falling behind. Giving extra practice can be a great way to learn and catch up with the rest of class. Integrating technology in the classroom can help to eliminate one on one instruction while still giving students the help that they need. Each student can work at their own level and pace on a computer.
3. Resource #3 - Math Chip
- This website discusses a free online resource for teachers, parents and students called Math Chip. This website has hundreds of math games for students. As a teacher, creating math games for students can be very time consuming. Using this game website will cut back on lesson preparation time and allow students to access it at school or home.
- I would definitely use this in my classroom as a free time activity. If I get done with a lesson early I don't want my students sitting around and doing nothing. Using this site gives them the option of doing something fun but yet they are still learning. And best of all it takes little preparation on the teachers part.
